Basset Hounds Breed Appearance 

Basset Hounds are medium sized dogs with large heads, loose skin and velvety ears. Most Basset Hounds are white and chestnut/sand-colored markings.They have real "puppy dog eyes" which are slightly sunken down. Basset Hounds have an elongated body with oversized ears which make for a beautiful dog.

Basset Hounds Temperament

Basset Hounds are gentle dogs who are devoted to their owners. They are usually peaceful and well behaved although they do need a lot of exercising. They are great dogs to have around children as they can be extremely affectionate and friendly.

Basset Hounds Exercise

Basset Hounds require daily walks as these are steong, active dogs. Basset hounds should not be taken out for long walks however until they are at least 10 Months old as they will not be strong enough. These dogs can live in an apartment as long as they are not kept indoors for long periods. Basset Hounds enjoy playing in the garden and should be outdoors as much as possible.  

Basset Hounds Health

Basset Hounds need the inside of their ears cleaned weekly and a quick brush each day. Basset Hounds have very padded feet so their nails don't always wear down so they often require their nails clipping. Basset Hounds are prone to slipped kneecaps and growth plate damage on their front legs. This is usually caused by over exercising as a puppy.
