The Shetland Sheepdog (or Sheltie puppies) is one of the world’s smallest herding dogs.

Originating from the Shetland Islands, these dogs evolved and adapted the area’s harsh climate and cold conditions.

However, a Sheltie dog can now be found all over the world, as this breed has become quite popular.

See the following guide to the Sheltie puppy if you are considering to acquire a Sheltie puppy for sale.

    Shetland Sheepdog History

This breed of dog was developed in the 1800s and began to appear in dog shows in England in 1906. It is said that they used to be known as “Toonies” as this was the local word for a farm.

    Appearance

The Shetland Sheepdog looks like a smaller version of the Rough Collie.

They have long and thick coats with colour combinations including tan and white, blue and white, or tan, black and white.

    Temperament

Sheltie puppies are known for being very vocal and are not too friendly with strangers. They are extremely intelligent and love to please their owners, which makes training them very easy.

As they are traditionally herding dogs, it is not uncommon for a Sheltie dog to want to round up humans.

    Grooming

If you are considering a Sheltie puppy for sale, it is important to be aware that they do need plenty of grooming. In fact, they need to be brushed on a daily basis in order to prevent their coat from becoming tangled.

A lot of Sheltie puppy owners have their coats trimmed to lessen the need for constant grooming.
