The benefits of a Winter Coat for your Dog
Not everyone agrees in clothes for dogs, however sometimes they can bring benefits. In winter some breeds of dogs can really benefit from a winter coat, especially in weather such as snow.
A coat is not for everyone though; smaller dogs and dogs with less fur, for example, a Chihuahua or a Greyhound. Both of these dogs are usually very thin and do not have much insulation in the way of hair. Being out for winter walks in the snow, they can really benefit from this extra warmth.
What kind of coat?
You want to make sure you get the right coat and one that is the most comfortable for your dog so it does not irritate them. Dog coats come in a variety of materials, as do human’s coats.
- If you are getting your furry, or not so furry, friend a coat for your winter walks, you will want to look for something that is water resistant as this is the more appropriate.
- Try and find a coat that will cover the dogs tummy and back however leaving the legs and rear free for running and being able to go to the toilet.
- It is best for the clothing to be fairly snug to get the full advantage and so it is not irritating for the dog when it is running about doing its usual adventurous sniffing.
- We recommend you try it on before you buy it if possible and ask the manufactures’ opinion on size.
Stay warm this winter.
