'Dog Meat Festival' Cancelled
Dog Meat Festival that was planned to take place at Moran Traditional Market in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province (South Korea) on the 1st July has been cancelled due to stron opposition from animal rights groups.
The Korea Dog Farmers’ Association had to cancel this year Dog Meat Festival aimed at promoting traditional dog meat consumption. The festival was to be held in a traditional open-air market in the city of Seongnam just south of Seoul and there was going to be various canine delicacies including barbecued dog, sausages and steamed paws. The event at the market, well known for selling dogs for meat, would also have featured products such as cosmetics and spirits with canine ingredients.
However, growing numbers of Koreans consider it an international embarrassment and there has been great opposition to the event of South Korean animal rights groups and many Internet users.
