14 dogs die from heatstroke
14 dogs died last week due to the high temperatures from heatstroke at Waycross kennel, in Georgia, USA.
Although pet owners and kennel owners are warned each year about the hazards related to summer weather, the heat has killed other dogs this year. The Waycross kennel can house up to 100 dogs and 20 cats at a time. The animals are exposed to sun and intense heat under the metal roof from the one side in the morning, and the other in the afternoon. The managers of the shelter have confirmed that the animals are given fresh cool water and are being sprayed down frequently.
