Police dog's head slammed in door
A man from Edgware, north London, has been charged with causing suffering to a police dog after the animal's head was slammed in a door.
Police were in Edgware, north London, searching for lost property when suddenly a man appeared. The man ignored officers' calls for him to stop and ran to a nearby house chased by police dog Zinzan and his handler. Once Zinzan was trying to enter the house following the suspect, the door was repeatedly slammed on its head and neck, leaving the animal suffering and screaming in pain. The officers managed to force open the door and the dog was able to escape. The police dog was immediately taken to a vet for treatment but its injuries seem serious and it is still not known whether it does full recovery.
The man has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering under the Animal Welfare Act and was due to appear at Brent Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
