    Shelter Dog Sunday - Ben

NewsShelter Dog SundayFriday 14 November 2014
Every Sunday we run a special feature on a rescue dog looking for a loving home. This week the spotlight is on Ben, a completely handsome Flat-coated Retriever!

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is the well-known backdrop of ITV's Paul O'Grady - For The Love Of Dogs but what you see on the show is only a fraction of the work that the shelter do. Battersea takes on over 9000 cats and dogs a year, including Ben - a sweet young boy waiting at their London Centre.

Just look at that little face! Ben is a gorgeous Flat-Coated Retriever, but is also a bit of a goofy youngster. He is only 9 months old and typical of his breed, he has heaps and heaps of energy, which needs to be channelled in a positive way. This could be through activities such as agility or CaniX, a well as consistent and regular training.

He is looking for an active home with experienced dog owners, ideally who have owned similar breeds before and so understand their little quirks! They will know what to expect of Ben and consequently would be most suitable to train him.

Ben would ideally like to live in a rural location so he has lots of room to bounce about in. Although he would rahter not live with children, Ben is quite fond of fellow furries and could live with another dog or even a cat.

Despite his super-good looks, Ben will be a bit of a project, so his new family will need tonnes of enthusiasm and a desire to put in reward based training from day 1. That said, the experience of moulding him into a happy, relaxed dog will certainly be a rewarding one and Ben is sure to make his new owners smile everyday!

Battersea are running their biggest ever appeal for the new kennels they are building. To make a donation of £5 simply text DOGS to 70800.
