    Shelter Dog Sunday - Kira

NewsShelter Dog SundayFriday 21 November 2014
Every Sunday we run a special feature on a rescue dog looking for a loving home. This week the spotlight is on Kira, a bubbly and sweet Rottie girl!

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is the well-known backdrop of ITV's Paul O'Grady - For The Love Of Dogs but what you see on the show is only a fraction of the work that the shelter do. Battersea takes on over 9000 cats and dogs a year, including Kira - a gorgeous Rottweiler waiting for a loving home at Battersea's London branch.

This is Kira - at 6 years old, she's mature Rottie girl and has bundles of character. She is outgoing but does have her insecurities and as a result will need confident owners who can stand by her side. She's a lot of fun to be around - her favourite things to do are playing games and enjoying all the love and attention she can get!

Rottweilers are a large breed and a working dog, so Kira wil need a lot of exercise. Rotties excell in activities like CaniX (jogging alongside her owner), swimming and bikejoring - although you should check with Battersea first what sort of exercise is most appropriate for Kira!

Kira does have some anxieties and is looking for owners who are committed to continuing her positive dog socialisations and building up her social skills. It will be a very rewarding experience to see her insecurities decrease as time goes on!

Kira can live in just about any location and might be able to live with teenagers who are responsible around dogs. Whilst she doesn't really mind other dogs, she would probably be best as the only dog in the home so that she can have all the fuss and attention to herself. Kira is not a big fan of cats, so it would be best if she didn't have to share her new home with any felines!

Kira is popular amongst the staff at Battersea - she is a loving family dog with a lot of quirky qualities. She will be a joyful addition to an active family!

If you think that lovely Kira is the dog for you please contact Battersea on 08435 094444 or email them at [email protected] Kira's reference number is 312544.

Battersea are running their biggest ever appeal for the new kennels they are building. To make a donation of £5 simply text DOGS to 70800.
