    Chosing a Pomperanian

The decision of having a dog as a part of the family is very responsible and should be not taken too easily. There are many different dog breeds and they all have different requirements and characteristics.

When choosing a puppy for the family, you should remember that it is a decision for many years. In case of the Pomeranians it might even be up to 16 years!. However, if you have already decided to get a Pomeranian puppy,  we strongly recommend you to read this article in order to choose the right one for your family.

First of all, learn everything about the breed characteristics and standards (you can find a detailed breed description). You must be aware of all the positive and negative things that your life with a dog migh bring.

Also, bear in mind that you have to choose carefully from where you are buying Pomeranians. You should know that it is not safe for a puppy to leave its litter before it is 8 weeks old. Ask for its parents and check their temperament and health, and ivestigate on whether there is a possibility to inherit some features you would not like to have in your puppy.

Remember to be careful when picking a puppy from a litter in which the first half has already found new homes. Normally (but not always), the best pups are sold out first. Remember that though Pomeranians are small dogs, the puppy you choose should not be the smallest or the largest from the litter. It should be just average. Check if it is not aggressive by holding it in your arms and see whether it squirms or vocalizes. Your puppy should not do any of those things while you are holding it in your arms.

Your Pomeranian should look a little bit cocky and be commanding looking. You may see in its tail heavy plumage that is set high and lies flat on the back. The coat should be soft with a dense undercoat. It should also have a copious and harsh-textured outer coat. The muzzle of your Pomeranian should be rather short and straight as well as fine and the skull should be closed. The puppy should have a short neck and the base should be set well into the shoulders. The whole body should look compact. Do not worry about the colour as it does not influence in the breed quality of Pomeranians.
