Homemade Halloween Treats for your Dog

Articledog food and nutritionFriday 26 October 2012

There’s nothing like a fresh batch of cookies… for your dog.

Try these homemade Halloween cookies for dogs.

This recipe makes 4 dozen dog cookies.

    You will need:

    ·        6 slices cooked crispy bacon, crumbled

    ·        4 eggs, well beaten

    ·        4.5 tblsp bacon fat

    ·        250 ml water

    ·        60 g non-fat dry milk powder

    ·        220 g graham flour

    ·        230 g wheat germ

    ·        70 g cornmeal

    Step by step instructions:

    1.      Preheat the oven to 180 °C.

    2.     Once you have all the ingredients measured out, it is very simple. Mix all of the ingredients together with a metal spoon, until all is binding together well.

    3.      Using a teaspoon, drop about a spoonful onto greaseproof paper on a baking tray, leaving enough room between them. This will mean the cookies will come out round.

    4.      Bake in your preheated oven for 15 minutes or until they are golden.

    5.      When the biscuits are cooked, turn the oven off to cool. Create grooves in them like pumpkins or cut them into a fun Halloween shape while warm because they are easily manipulated at this point. Then leave the biscuits on a baking sheet in the cold oven overnight to dry out.

    6.      When the biscuits are dry, decorate them as your wish, only using ingredients that are safe for dogs.
