Here are a few interesting facts about terrier dogs and some information about the breed for anyone who is thinking of getting one. There are many types of terriers as well as cross breeds, but I think we shall stay away from the cross breeds today or this could get messy. There will be a list of the pure terrier breeds at the end of the article.

    • Due to the wide range of breeds of terriers, the temperament of these dogs can change dramatically across the spectrum. However, overall terriers are usually very protective as their first purpose was the skill of hunting. They were used to  hunt vermin, foxes and more before the domesticated breeds started to emerge.
    • Terriers are a very popular breed of dog due to their appealing ruggedness. They make a good farm companion from living on a farm to simply adding an extra cuddly being to the household.
    • All breeds of terriers are quite small. The size does range, however no breed gets as big as even a Labrador.
    • Terriers can be hard to train and are often described as feisty; however, many can also have very positive traits of loyalty, friendliness and a stable temperament.
    • Terriers have athletisim in their genes. They are a very active breed. Some are even used as race dogs, however as a normal house pet they are great to take on walks and are very playful.
    • On average, terriers live a long life, between 14 - 16 years.
