How to play with your dog?

Articlegeneral dog adviceWednesday 31 August 2011

Almost everyone loves dogs. Playing with your pooch is one of the most natural things for any dog owner. However, as some of you might be afraid of dogs or simply do not know where to start; we give you some tips below to enjoy even more your dog’s company. Your dog activity level and playfulness is very often related with its age and also with the dog’s breed. Consider those two factors before starting to play with your pooch. Here you can find dog breed guides to find out more about the breed that interests you most.

Among the most famous games with your dog is to play fetch. Some breeds enjoy it more than others. Start by finding an open space and throw a tennis ball or Frisbee and get your dog to bring it back to you. Remember to pay attention especially to puppies as they very often tend to chew everything and they might end up swallowing materials. However, if your dog does not drop the toy, you can learn our articles how to train your pooch to fetch here.

Chasing bubbles is very simple game and some dogs just love it. They keep on chasing the bubbles and then catch them by jumping in the air. Simple and funny game for both of you! You also should not be scared to play some tug-of-war with your puppy. No need to worry until your dog’s tail is wagging. Remember that winning the tug establishes the proper hierarchy and some dogs should not be allowed to win. However, many pet dogs are submissive, anxious, and lacking in self-confidence. In this case it is recommended to allow these dogs to win tugs.

Remember that whenever you play with your dog you should always keep it entertained and stimulated.
