How to prepare a beach day with your dog?

Articlegeneral dog adviceTuesday 21 June 2011

Summer is here and when planning the weekend or holidays you are asking yourself what to do with your pet, what to take with you etc. Very often it results too complicated to take your pooch with you and finally you leave your dog at home, with a friend or in a boarding kennel. However, we encourage you to take your dog with you. Following few simple steps might bring you both a lot of fun!

First, make sure the beach you are going to it’s not marked with a blue flague or doesn’t have any special restrictions or regulations, such as leash policies etc. Remember to bring enough water for both of you, the perfect solution would be to bring a bowl for your dog and leave it in the shadow so it might always come and have some whenever it wants. Too much salt water might cause vomiting or diarrhea and it might also destroy the leather leash so it would be good to buy a nylon one (always wash it at home).

If it’s really sunny day, remember to bring a blanket for your dog as the sand might get hot and hurt its paws. Be preventive – there will be probably many other dogs in case the beach is popular among the pet owners so you might get visits from other pooches that will mark their territory. We recommend you don’t take anything that has a great value for you… and as usual, bring pick up bags with you and always clean up after your dog. If you decide to play fetch with your dog, remember to bring with you a floatable toy. Be careful though about the waves, sea currents etc.
