Deaf Puppy Seeks For New Home

NewsGeneral Dog NewsTuesday 31 May 2011

Lobes, an 11 week-old female pointer was given by her owner to be put down as she was unfit to be a working dog. The Scottish RSPCA is now looking for her new home. The puppy is deaf and will need to be trained using hand signals.

Lobes was originally taken to the vet by her owner to be put to sleep. However, the vet contacted the RSPCA in order to see whether a home could be found for a puppy and so it happened.

Deaf dogs cannot respond to voice comments or clicker training, however they are able to develop a strong bond between its owner as their learn the hand gestures. It’s recommended that Lobes goes to a home with an existing dog so she can learn her behaviours from the older animal and have it support when being outside.
