Dog thrown at a referee during a Spanish football match

    NewsAnimal CrueltyTuesday 25 February 2014

As reported by Metro Sport a few days ago, the football match between two Spanish clubs from Andalusia experienced a hectic moment when a spectator threw a little dog at the referee.

It happened during a football game confronting two regional teams from Almeria, in Southern Spain, when a member of the audience grabbed a dog from another supporter and hurled the little animal to the official, frustrated by his decisions.

The owner of the dog then attacked the 50-year-old, who has faced animal cruelty charges,

Although the animal, a Yorkshire Terrier named Goofy, missed the referee and was left unconsicous after hitting the pitch, is now recovering well.

On the other hand, the offender was apprehended and fined in a local magristate’s court. He has to pay the veterinary bills and the cost of the trial and has also been fined with 200 euros (£165).

Had Goofy been seriously hurt or killed, the man would have faced up to a year in prision for animal abuse.
