    NewsDog CuriositiesMonday 11 July 2011

Lucky, a pet Labrador that used to suffer obesity together with its owner, has been named the PDSA’s Pet Fit Club Champ.

A dog owner who lost over 30kg has seen her beloved dog win an award for its slimming efforts. Lucky, a Labrador dog, put on weight after enjoying meals with its owner and was put on a diet after she was recommended to shed the pounds. The Labrador now has lost a quarter of its body weight and 13cm from its waist. According to the vets it is likely to increase the dog’s life expectancy by an average of around two years.

Last Wednesday, Lucky has been announced the winner of vet organisation PDSA's Pet Fit Club annual prize. It was nominated for the fat-fighting competition by Alyson, who is delighted at his success. The once heavyweight hound triumphed over fellow contestants - four dogs and six cats to take the title of Pet Fit Club Champ and is now the charity's pet slimming ambassador. In total this year's Pet Fit Club finalists have lost nearly 40kg in weight - equivalent to 700 sausages, 100 tins of pet food or 40 bags of sugar.
