Nicola Ritchie in dog sled charity effort for Macmillan Cancer Support

NewsWorld Dog NewsFriday 24 February 2012
A Scottish woman is to tackle a 200km (124 miles) journey in Sweden in a dog sled to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Nicola Ritchie, 34, who was raised in Shetland and now lives in Aberdeen, hopes to raise £20,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her late father.
The five-day challenge starts at the end of March.
She said: "The trip is certainly going to be the adventure of a lifetime."
Her father, Gordon, passed away in 2010, and he had been helped by Macmillan in Moray, where the family was originally from and where they had returned to.

    'Good cause'

They would watch husky racing in the area, inspiring the fundraising idea.
She told the BBC Scotland news website: "It will be tiring as we'll be standing on our sled for several hours each day. I have been exercising in preparation, going to the gym and swimming.
"It's a very good cause, but the reality of the trip is sinking in. It should be quite a challenge."
At the time of speaking, she had already raised more than £16,000.
Her employers, Peterson SBS, are covering the costs of the trip so all money raised can go to Macmillan.
