    Shelter Dog Sunday - Dusty!

NewsShelter Dog SundayFriday 10 October 2014

Every Sunday we are running a special feature on a rescue dog looking for a loving home. This week, we meet the gorgeous and affectionate Dusty!

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is the well-known backdrop of ITV's Paul O'Grady - For The Love Of Dogs but what you see on the show is only a fraction of the work that the shelter do. Battersea takes on over 9000 cats and dogs a year, including Dusty - a sweet Saluki in their Old Windsor Branch!

Dusty is a friendly gentle boy who, through no fault of his own, has been waiting to find his forever home since March. Aged 2 years and 1 month old, he is a Saluki - a sight hound - and Dusty's new owners would need to have knowledge of the breed's traits.

Despite being quite large in size, Dusty can be worried by some situations. He can find socialising with other dogs a bit overwhelming, so his new forever home must be committed to continuing his socialisation. This way, he can become more relaxed and confident around other canines.

Dusty loves his food, and this can be utilized to help him with his training. He already knows SIT and has a real potential to learn other commands - as he'll do anything for a tasty treat.

Dusty's new home would need an secure garden, as he's a bit of a hairy Houdini and enjoys escape attempts! Due to his slightly nervous disposition in some cirumstances, he would prefer a rural home away from the city with no children, and would need to be kept on a lead during walks. Although being a sight hound means he is unable to live with cats, Dusty would happily live with another dog depending on that dog's personality.

Take a look at the video below, which shows Dusty in action (and him walking very nicely on-lead):

As you can see, this handsome boy is extremely affectionate once he gets to know you and loves leaning in for a cuddle and an ear rub! With just a little guidance he'll make a fabulous addition to his new home!
