    Shelter Dog Sunday - Poppy

NewsShelter Dog SundaySunday 04 January 2015

Every Sunday we run a special feature on a rescue dog looking for a loving home. This week the spotlight is on the super-cute Poppy; a lively terrier looking for an active home.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is the well-known backdrop of ITV's Paul O'Grady - For The Love Of Dogs but what you see on the show is only a fraction of the work that the shelter do. Battersea takes on over 9000 cats and dogs a year, including Poppy - a gorgeous Parson Russell Terrier currently at Battersea's London Branch.

Just look at that face - beautiful 1 year old Poppy is a live wire and loves to be on the go 24/7! For this reason she is looking for a very active family who can spend a large part of the day out with her, which will allow her to run off all that extra energy! Not only has Poppy got stunning good looks, but she's extremely smart too. This means she can get bored quickly, but if you put in the time teaching her new tricks using food as motivation she will respond well and remain engaged with you.

Although adopting a dog as active as Poppy can be a bit daunting, there are so many benefits to having a dog with such love for the great outdoors. Studies show that dog owners are less likely to suffer from heart disease and stress as a result of regular walks with their dogs. The social benefits of an energetic dog are also obvious - a day out with her walking in local beauty spots is a wonderful way to bring your family together on a regular basis and Poppy's humourous temperament is sure to get you chatting with other dog walkers!

Poppy's love of food, toys and walks, as well as her high intelligence are typical traits of the terrier breed. Learn more about these compact and entertaining dogs using our breed guide to gain a deeper understanding of the kind of lifestyle Poppy requires of her new owners.

If you think you have the kind of outdoor, active lifestyle that Poppy needs, she could be the perfect companion for you, bringing constant excitement and humour into your life.

If you could offer Poppy a home, please contact Battersea Dogs & Cats home on 08435 094444 or contact them by email on at [email protected]. Poppy's reference number is 308695.
