Thames Valley Police dog mauls wild deer near Greenham Common

NewsGeneral Dog NewsTuesday 06 March 2012
A wild deer has been put down after it was mauled by a police dog during an exercise walk in Berkshire.
The incident happened on fenced-off private land near Greenham Common on Sunday afternoon.
A police spokesman said the deer had "strayed into the enclosure" and was consequently chased by the dog.
The deer had collided with the perimeter fence and suffered dog bites. A vet treated the animal but it had to be put down because of a mouth injury.
Thames Valley Police said it is investigating the circumstances of the incident and added the fence is "checked regularly to ensure it is completely secure".
