Vet puts missing dog down and cremates remains

    NewsAnimal CrueltyTuesday 15 November 2011

A couple from Occoquan, Virgina, USA, was shocked after finding their pet dog just day after it went missing and discovering that it had been put down by a vet who had found it.

Basie, a 17-year-old dog had been found only a day after it went missing. However, its owners joy was short-lived as it turned out that Basie had been put down by a vet who believed it was a stray dog. Just before the dog went missing, its owner had removed its collar as it was bothering the dog so when vet found her, the canine was unidentifiable. Vet's examination report of elderly Basie found she had several health issues, including respiratory disease and neurologic abnormalities. But it also stated she was 'alert' and 'responsive.' Basie's owners conceded she had been unwell but added that they were monitoring her condition and do not believe she was ready to die.
