According to BBC, Around 9,000 dogs are descending on the Royal Welsh showground near Builth Wells for a qualifier for Crufts.

The three-day championship event in Powys hosted by the Welsh Kennel Club starts on Friday when smaller toy breeds will be given the stage.

Saturday will include working and terrier breeds and Sunday gundogs and utility breeds as well as the "all important" best in show.

Competitors are expected from all over Europe.

"The dogs who come here qualify to attend Crufts," said Graham Hill the Championship Dog Show secretary.

"There will be over 180 breeds represented, which is virtually every breed recognised by the Kennel Club.

"We even have the 29 'vulnerable' breeds from the UK, those breeds which only have about 300 puppies a year."

Despite fashion some dog breeds remain perennially popular and make up the largest number of entries, Mr Hill said.

"They are the Labrador and the golden retrievers, the Cavalier King Charles spaniel also has a large entry as have whippets."

Events will include agility, obedience and Kennel Club seminars for up-and-coming judges

"With any competition it has a competitive spirit, but it's all good fun," he added.
