Young dog wanted - Mutt would be lovely

We would love a puppy or young dog to join our family. We have a garden, lots of energy, plenty of experience with dogs and lots of cuddles to offer. In an ideal world we’d have a scruffy mutt of a dog - a Heinz 57 dog please.
We’re not looking for a designer breed, no handbag doggy for us, we just want a four-legged furry friend. Must be good with kids, so a young dog that can be trained and integrated into the family is ideal.
No tiny dogs (we’d worry about tripping over them) but any medium or med/small would be considered. We have tried rescue centres but they’re scared of giving a dog to a family small children - understandable considering the lives these dogs have led so far.
